CANTON, OH - Stark County Prosecutor's Office Attorney Michael Bickis, tells 19 Action News that several months ago, a Stark County Deputy Dog Warden was given a written reprimand for inappropriately using a water hose on a dog.
Surveillance video from an incident several months ago has now surfaced on YouTube showing the act of inappropriate behavior. Bickis believes the video has surfaced because the Deputy Dog Warden in question, Phil Sedlacko, has a contract with the City of Canton for animal trapping services that is up for renewal. Those who oppose the renewal are more than likely connected to the video posting.
The Deputy Dog Warden was called out for an aggressive dog. He went to collect the animal and shot it with a tranquilizer dart. The dog was brought back to the Stark County Dog Warden Department where the dog was thrown into a cage and hosed down aggressively with water. Later in day, the Deputy Dog Warden decided to take the animal to the vet due to excessive bleeding from the dart wound, which had struck an artery.
The dog died enroute to the vet.
The incident was referred to the Canton City Prosecutor's Office for investigation. The Prosecutor's Office determined there was insignificant evidence of a criminal act being committed.
